This holiday legend from long, long ago
is a very special story that children should know.
A kind and true reindeer with one antler small
miraculously changed Christmas once and for all.

At holiday time, a special little reindeer with mismatched antlers shows up as an early gift from Santa to stay with each child and go on daily adventures with them. The reindeer learns the child’s true Christmas wishes (and makes sure Santa does as well), all the while encouraging the child to celebrate their own differences. It’s a new holiday tradition the whole family will love!

The packaging of the plushie reindeer with the book will be sure to make a child eager to open this present quickly. There is also an animated cartoon to pair with it to further add to its appeal. I was pleased to see that the plushie had sewn fabric eyes and stuffing not beads making this a safe choice for even the youngest of readers. For fans of Elf on the shelf, this book explains that Santa needs help knowing all the presents each child will want because each child is unique. The reindeer explains that he should arrive one month before Christmas and stay near the child to learn all about them and will be letting Santa know each night while the child is asleep. The reindeer will then leave with Santa to help pull the sleigh. I did like that at the end the reindeer said the child need only ask and it can come back for special occasions, birthdays, and holidays throughout the year.
Final Verdict: I like that the reindeer is supposed to be carried around and loved on. The book itself is more a set of instructions explaining the activity than a true story. I do like the emphasis that children are unique and special and that is why the reindeer must help Santa know what they would be interested to have. If your family likes Elf on a shelf this is a very similar idea.
