My daughter (age 4) absolutely loves this rhyming story and is picking up some of the words from the pictures. She especially likes the part where the duck gets into trouble-in the pantry and then is wearing the princess dress and crown in the closet.

The story helped explain that pets are a big responsibility and you need to spend a lot of time with them and sometimes they have to be given away. (She's been wanting a puppy!)

The educational facts about ducks was very interesting as well. Good gimmick!

The story is about a girl turning 8. She has a birthday party and invites 8 friends to come. It is a princess party with hats and a room decorated like a castle and a castle cake. Andrea gets a special present, a pet duck. Her mother also gives her a book about ducks so she can learn how to take care of it.

The duck follows Andrea everywhere and is always by her side. As it grew, it turned white and started getting into trouble by pulling up plants in the garden, getting into the pantry and knocking over things and it went into the closets and messed up things.

Then the day came when the duck had to go live at the park. Andrea was sad that her pet had to go, but her mom gave her a special necklace with a shinny heart charm to tie on the duck's neck, so she could find it easily when she came back to visit the duck.  Andrea was very surprised when she did go back to look for her pet duck that he remembered her and came running to her and he had his own family.  Yep, you guessed, 8 baby ducks!  So Andrea knew that setting him free had been the right thing to do because he had his own family to take care of.

I liked the rhyming story and the pretty pictures. At the end there are educational facts about ducks. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes ducks, or likes princess stories.
