What I Loved: This was such a great addition to the story. There were plenty of surprises and character growth. Philip learns to get creative to save his kingdom from giants that the Evil Queen has unleashed. He was able to wake Penelope from her sleeping curse meaning that he is her true love. However, he doesn’t know her and has a few feelings for May so he is struggling to come to terms with his destiny. He also assumes since Jack went off to learn how to be an Eye for the Evil Queen that it is his destiny to die to fulfill the magic mirror’s prophecy.
May does struggle to reconcile the loving grandmother she thought she had with the vile things the Evil Queen does. She hides from the Evil Queen’s reach with the help of the Fairy Queens. As long as she is with her evil stepmother and stepsisters, she is invisible. Being treated as a servant and cooped up out of the action only works for so long before she works to defeat the Evil Queen.
Jack receives training as an Eye and even accomplishes a mission that will hurt his friends and further the power of the Evil Queen. However, he has an endgame plan that no one knows about and his story path is the most surprising of all.
Final Verdict: The ending was a great twist and perfect! If you love humorous stories and fractured fairytales this is a great series to read. We had characters and story plots mingling from Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rumpelstiltskin, Leprechauns, Hans Christen Anderson, and the Brothers Grimm.
