NINJA NICKELS AND THE PROBLEM WITH PICKLES by Leah Cupps is a fun rhyming picture book about a hungry dog who gets himself into trouble after his family goes to bed. Nickels is on a mission for yummy pickles, but when the jar falls off the shelf and breaks, will he come clean or let Lincoln take the blame with mom? Each page has a fun illustration that brings the story and action to life. Illustrations are similar in style to Aaron Blabey and Dav Pilkey. The lyrical rhyming is sure to catch young readers attention and build word fluency.

What I Loved: Nickels is a mischievous character who young readers will easily identify with. Readers will enjoy following his misadventures as the series continues. I personally loved the message to this story. Lincoln and his mom walk into the pantry after the jar has broken with Nickels out of sight. He easily could have let Lincoln take the blame for the shattered jar of pickles. However, he doesn't. Nickels takes responsibility for his actions which teaches younger children about personal responsibility.

Final Verdict: A lyrical and colorful picture book, NINJA NICKELS AND THE PROBLEM WITH PICKLES is a fun read aloud for toddlers and preschoolers.
