My Saree is a beautifully illustrated picture book that celebrates Indian culture and the importance of the saree. Divya is a young Indian girl who loves seeing her mother dress up in various sarees. When Divya's school holds a Heritage Night she knows exactly what she wants to wear. She has always loved her mother's peacock blue saree and is disappointed when her mother tells her she is too young to wear it. As her classmates get excited about Heritage Night Divya seems to withdraw and not want to partake in the event. Divya's mother surprises her with her very own saree which she proudly wears to Heritage Night.

What I Liked: Although we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, I was immediately drawn to this cover. My interest was piqued by the vibrantly colored illustrations. While I didn't know much about the saree, I enjoyed how the author weaved a story around the significance of the saree in Indian culture. It was especially useful to read the author's note at the end of the book explaining her experience wearing her first saree. Throughout the book, you can see Divya's pride in her culture. I love to see Indian culture being represented more in picture books.

My Saree is a beautifully illustrated book that young readers will enjoy because of the vibrant pictures and heartwarming story.
