MERMAID YOU LOOK by Andres Miedoso is the sixteenth installment of his series Desmond Cole Ghost Patrol which follows a young Andres and his best friend Desmond as they explore the paranormal activity in their town. In this installment, summer has come to Kersville, and it is so hot that even the pool water is boiling. What is a kid to do? Why, go to the local aquarium where the air conditioning is so cold you'll be freezing in no time. Andres and Desmond join his parents for a day at the Kersville aquarium, however things get off to a fishy start when first his parents are called away on important scientific business and second a strange music can be heard coming from inside. What will Desmond and Andres find inside?

What I Loved:
I adore this series. It is such a fun and engaging read. My son, who is well passed the marketed age for the books, also loves them. He gobbles them up in one sitting. Easy to read language with lots of interactive illustrations will encourage newly independent readers to read on their own. It also makes for a great read aloud option.

The mystery and "spine-chilling horror" (per Amazon) is age-appropriate and helps move the plot along. As an older adult, it is easy to spot the mystery early, and younger readers who clue into the foreshadowing will see it as well. The horror is balanced nicely with humor, just as Desmond's fearlessness matches Andres's hesitance.

Final Thoughts:
Exciting and full of laughs, MERMAID YOU LOOK by Andres Miedoso will have kids begging for more.
