MARY HAD A LITTLE PLAN is a charming and imaginative picture book about community and creating something cool. When Mary passes an abandoned lot, she begins to form a plan. As she begins to transform it, she realizes that she needs help and gathers everyone together. Before long, they have changed it from a mess into a great community hangout.

What I loved: The writing style here is fantastic with great rhythm and rhyme that is sure to charm young readers. It is both fun to read and hear aloud. The story itself is a powerful one about community and ways that children can make a difference and bring people together. Mary really shines through the story with the way that she forms an idea through to how she makes it happen.

The colorful and detailed illustrations bring the story to life, and there is much for children to enjoy on each page. Expressive characters and bright colors work so well throughout. The font is clear and easy to read throughout with key use of word art for emphasis.

Final verdict: An imaginative and rhyming delight, MARY HAD A LITTLE PLAN is a charming picture book about community and making a difference. Highly recommend for fans of IZZY GIZMO and ADA TWIST, SCIENTIST.
