LOOK, IT'S ROAR ROAR LION is an adorable board book that introduces some animals and sounds for the youngest of readers. Each page gives an animal with a sound that they make, such as munch munch for the hippo and clip clop for the zebra. Then, it asks the reader to find a smaller animal or insect, such as a butterfly, which they can locate by lifting up the felt flap on each page. At the end, the book summarizes the larger animals they met along with asking what sound the child makes along with a mirror behind a large felt flap.

What I loved: This is a simple but really well done concept. The formulaic text will work very well for the youngest of readers who can appreciate the rhythm but also identify what changes on each page, allowing for early recognition. The flaps are very sturdy and built in well while also soft and fun for children to touch. The animals have a papercraft style along the lines of Eric Carle that makes them quite fun to visually explore - with an added bonus of foiling on key parts that makes them really pop and shine. The mirror at the end adds to the fun for little ones who can check out themselves.

The writing is easy to read aloud and has a great rhythm with plenty of repetition that is great for infants and toddlers. My preschooler also got into this book despite its simplicity, likely for the visually fun images to explore and flaps to lift, so it is a book that can work for a variety of ages.

Final verdict: LOOK, IT'S ROAR ROAR LION is a delightful and colorful board book to introduce some animal sounds and have fun with reading. This lift-the-flap book will work well for infants, toddlers, and even some preschoolers!
