‘Little Kids First Big Book of Baby Animals’ by Maya Myers, a National Geographic Kids book, contains six chapters, plus an animal map, parent tips, a glossary, and more. The images are vivid and colorful, with a fact chart for the animals to help better understand them in quick fashion.

From learning about baby basics to reading more about grassland and water babies, mountain and desert babies, to forest babies and polar babies, so many baby animals are covered to help readers better grasp not only the kinds of animals they are, but what they are called when they’re babies, where they live, how they have their babies (whether from an egg or how many they have), what food they eat, and how big (or small) they are when born.

It’s great how there are questions posed on many of the pages, like “if you had to eat only one food most of the time, what would it be?” to “what’s your favorite hiding place?” to “how would you help take care of a baby?” and so many others. It does a great job of engaging readers so they feel they are a part of the “action” of the book, learning about tons of animals and why they are special and unique in their own right. It is a beautiful encyclopedia of sorts that young children (and even adults) will love diving into as they learn about land and sea animals alike.
