Kell Thompson's life is making less and less sense by the minute. After receiving some devastating news, in a fit of rage, Kell discovers that she has supernatural abilities. She can turn her entire body into an acidic, mercurial substance capable of burning through anything from wood to steel. Sounds cool, sure, but it also opens up a host of other problems. Things go from weird to mind-boggling when Kell wakes up on a spaceship with superhuman team, the Unit. She quickly gets swept up in their fight against Shadow Sinn, a very powerful creature with a vengeful grudge against the Unit. Kell has to learn to embrace her powers and help the Unit fend off Shadow Sinn's massive blows. But all this may prove to be too much for Kell right when things get critical . . .

This book is a page-turner! It's adventurous and exciting. It's a young book but anyone can read and enjoy it. The main character Kell is such a role model. She struggling to find herself and her powers while traveling with The Unit, a group of super-humans who are at war with a creature named Shadow Sinn. The great thing about this book is that it isn't just a generic teenage fantasy story. These guys aren't out to save the world, it's about them trying to find themselves and protect their territory. Emotions run high! Definitely worth checking out.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It's very colorful and the characters are interesting. From the first page you get swept up in the main character, Kell's journey. It would be easy for a book like this to go over the top or get kind of predictable, but there are a lot of twists and turns that keep you guessing the whole way through. I particularly enjoyed the stuff with Shadow Sinn and The Land Alive.

The group that Kell gets swept up with is the Unit, led by Cutter, and though they all have supernatural abilities, the story isn't a "superhero" tale. If anything, these guys are anti-superheros, trying to protect what's rightfully theirs on their own territory. Being with them turns out to be the best thing for Kell because it helps her mature as a character, learn more about her powers and accept who she is.

It ends on kind of a cliffhanger so I'm glad it's a series. Can't wait for the next one!
