The yakkity yakkity yakkity yak-
Why is it the yak never answers you back?
To a yak, nothing's worse
Than to have to converse-
The yakkity yakkity yak.
This book is a mixed bag. Some poems are delightful (see Australian Desert Frog or Warthog) while others are forced (see Dingo or Caribou). As a concept, the books around-the-world glimpse of animals through the medium of poetry captivated this reviewer. Sadly, the poetic execution was mediocre at best.
The illustrations fit the zany tone of the book with animal caricatures in water color and colored pencil. An index of animal facts at the books end provides additional information for interested readers.
Animal lovers will enjoy this book, but poetry purists will struggle with it.
