If you're looking for the perfect children's book for National Poetry Month, look no further. The Tighty Whitey Spider: And More Wacky Animal Poems I Totally Made Up, by Kenn Nesbitt, is the book you seek. It is filled, front-to-back, with fresh, original, hilarious poems on just about every subject you can think of, and it's sprinkled through-and-through with side-splitting drawings by illustrator Ethan Long.

I admit when I read the first few poems in this book, I was impressed...but skeptical. "No one can keep up this perfect rhyming and impeccable timing all the way through a book," I thought. After all, there are 44 poems in the book--all original. I didn't think there were enough words in the English language to rhyme all those subjects.

I was wrong. Nesbitt really outdoes himself. Each poem is full of humor, imagination, and endearing wordplay. And each one really rhymes. I don't mean almost or that-was-pretty-close, I mean they actually rhyme. My favorites are, "My Dog Plays Invisible Frisbee," and "Don't Ever Ask a Centipede," and "My Chicken's on The Internet," and...well darn-it, I guess you can say I love the entire book.

Nesbitt is the author of several collections of poetry for children, and his work has been in school textbooks all over the world.

So if you're a teacher, a parent, or just one of the poetically-challenged among the masses, be sure to pick up a copy of The Tighty Whitey Spider.
