Curious About Insects
Award-winning educator and author Cathryn Sill introduces very young children to basic facts about insects with the help of beautifully detailed and realistic illustrations from noted wildlife illustrator John Sill.
Simple and clear descriptions of how insects look, where they live, what they eat, and how they move around make this third title in the Discovering Nature series a dependable and informative beginning resource for learning about insects and the wonders of the natural world.
What I loved: This is great information, perfect for board book readers including infants and toddlers. The amount of text on each page is great, and the illustrations are unbelievably good. They look so real! The detail is really phenomenal too, with plenty of attention to background as well as the insects themselves. Toddlers who are interested in bugs will delight in looking at these insects, while they also get to hear basic facts. I really appreciated that each image is labeled as to the type of insect pictured, so parents can easily give names of each of them when asked.
The text is very clear and in a reasonably large font. The sentences are printed at the bottom of the page in a separate, solid color bar that will really help caregivers to read them easily. The board book pages are great for little fingers who want to turn the pages themselves without being too thick/heavy to hold. This was definitely designed with the right age group in mind.
Final verdict: With detailed and fantastic images, CURIOUS ABOUT INSECTS is an educational board book for infants and toddlers to begin learning more about the world- more specifically, the bugs - around them. Highly recommend for curious young readers or those who already enjoy insects!
