The Man in Red really exists. If you are one of the people in the world that say Santa is just a myth, you are simply and completely wrong. Many tales have been told about the Man in Red. Some true—some as true as two-headed unicorns with wings living in the city of Atlantis … this tale is true. A year not so long ago, Santa was ready to take his yearly pilgrimage on the night before Christmas when disaster struck—he stubbed his toe, twice. The toe ballooned to nearly triple its normal size. He could not make his yearly run by himself; he needed help. So on that fateful night, he enlisted four of his best elves, along with his reindeer, to help him make his deliveries around the world: Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa, South America, and North America. Although the reindeer made this trip with Santa every year, his elves had not been away from the Pole in many years, if ever; they had no idea what they would encounter on this journey. However, the deer and the elves knew what was at stake. It was well known at the Pole that Santa needed to make all deliveries to the world on Christmas Eve or he would lose the gift of being Santa—the rules were very clear. So … with a magically altered 24 hours, four elves and four bucks set out on a journey fraught with mishaps, misplaced presents, and some misbehavior in an attempt to save the Man in Red.

Santa has always been there to deliver gifts to the good boys and girls around the world, but this year, he stubs his toe. It swells up and becomes too painful to walk on which makes it hard to deliver gifts. It seems like there won't be a Christmas this year and if Santa can't do his job, then he will be replaced.

Desperate not to let down all of the children and to save Christmas, Santa gathers four elves to help him deliver presents this year. The elves haven't left the North Pole in a really long time, so of course there's going to be some issues. There seeing everything and encountering children for the first time.

Santa and the elves start in Europe where they run into two mischievous twins. Next is Australia and I absolutely love the scene with Sara, a girl who's suffering from cancer. Then, Asia where they encounter someone bad and the sneaky Li. Then, it's Africa, South America, and finally, North America. To top everything off, I absolutely love the way it ends, but I don't want to give anything away.

Final Verdict: This was a funny story and it felt like I was traveling around the world with Santa and his elves. THE YEAR SANTA STUBBED HIS TOE gives us a glimpse at what it's like for Santa each year and the author did his research on how the different countries celebrate the holiday season. It was almost like I was there with them and this is the perfect Christmas gift to those children who love the holidays and Santa.
