This is a book about an orphan named Alexandria, living alone with her geese when she turns helps an old woman who turns her into a beauty, allows gold dust to fall out of her hair when she combs it, and her tears to turn into diamonds! Cool, right? That's what she thinks until the naive prince of her small kingdom and the evil king of the next kingdom both show up at her door with two battalions, both asking for her hand in marriage. She declines them both and they put her in a tower for safekeeping until she decides. She escapes the tower with the help of her beloved geese, and meets up with plenty of adventures and gets to know the prince a little better. The surprise ending is stunning.
This is a delightful read, and evades the "Be careful what you wish for" cliche. It is a light, funny read and Alexandria's tone is hilarious. Her sarcasm and wit are fresh and best when she is with the amusing prince.
