Forged by Fire (Hazelwood High #2)
Sharon M. Draper has interwoven characters and events from her previous novel, Tears of a Tiger, in this unflinchingly realistic portrayal of poverty and child abuse. It is an inspiring story of a young man who rises above the tragic circumstances of his life by drawing on the love and strength of family and friends.
Gerald has been in a constantstruggle to find a stable home ever since he was a baby. His mother a drug addict who went to jail for child abandonment. when his mom went to jail gerald stayed with his aun queen. Everything had been fine until his mom showed up the same day aunt queen died. geral had to go live with his mother, 5 year old sister angel and his drunk and angry stepfather. when living there gerald notices that jordan molests angel. Reading this i felt like if i was in the story i felt geralds fury and angels fright toward jordan. This novel conveys a messege that everyone should be aware of -child abuse should be reported in order for the abuser to receive puishment-.
This book was so real! Ms. Draper is truly a great writer. This book is for you if you're a Draper fan.
The book starts out with this boy named Gerald who lives in Ohio(like in all her books). Gerald's mother loves him but she has "problems"
She leaves him alone to go out for a while and although she told him not to, Gerald plays with matches, and ends up setting the house on fire.
Later, after Gerald has lived with his loving "Aunt Queen" while his mother is in jail, she comes back. New husband and a new sis for Gerald. The rest... well you'll just have to read the book!
This is a good book about Will Gerald. Will Gerald is faced with having to constantly try to protect his half-sister from his abusive stepfather and drug addicted mother. To play such a grown up roll at such a young age is amazing. He is faced with a final battle with his stepfather that he must win, once and for all.
