Edgeview Alternative School was supposed to be end of the road. But for Martin and his friends, it just might be a new beginning.
What if the misfits from your school really have 'talents' or special abilities that even they didn't know about? Wouldn't that explain a lot about their 'unique' behaviour? This book gives a very unsual spin to some very unusual students at a school for misfits. Meet Trash, Torchie, Cheater, Lucky and Flinch. When they band together with the help of a newcomer, Martin, they realize their potential and help defeat the school bully affectionately known as Bloodbath and save the school they've come to love.
When troublemaker Martin Anderson is sent off to Edgeview Alternative School, he's a little nervous about what he might be facing. Rightfully so, considering the school bully finds him before he even learns where the cafeteria is.
His roommate is nice, but as a fire bug, Torchie just might burn Martin out of his own room. As for new friends, Martin isn't quite sure what to make of Cheater, Flinch, Trash, or Lucky. If Martin's parents saw the kinds of things these guys did, they'd welcome him home with open arms.
When Martin puts two-and-two together, he figures out that Edgeview may not just be a school for misfits...it may be the last stop for kids who have undiscovered hidden talents. Talents that Martin may be able to help his friends learn to control, if only they believe him.
This is a fun book, full of mysteries readers will enjoy uncovering along with Martin and the gang. Each of the six characters has a unique voice and talent, although the story itself belongs to Martin.
He's been so misjudged for so long that as the pieces fall into place, the big picture is incredibly satisfying.
Lubar's humor never fails to entertain as he uses a variety of techniques to tell the story of Martin and Edgeview Alternative School.
Off to turn another page....
this is an awesome book i had to read it for school and didn't think it would be very good. turns out it was a way good book. its about this kid who can always find something that bothers a person and mouth off about it. he has gotten kicked out of 4 schools and is now in a detention center. he meets 5 new friends that after studying them finds out they have special pshycic powers. he feels left out because he doesn't have one and all his friends do. after they try to shut down the school martin and his friends try to stop them. thats when martin finds out he has a special power also. he can find something inside of someone and make it good or bad and either make them feel bad about it or feel good about it.
i loved this book and i think all kids from
10-13 would absolutely love it! i mean i would no i'm 12 years old!!!!!
My 6th grade reading class just finished reading Hidden Talents by David Lubar and could not put it down. I have never had so many students wanting to take a novel home to read. Even my reluctant readers were captured by Mr. Lubar's ability to mesh sci-fi and humor together. I now have students independantly researching telekinesis, clairvoyance, and telepathy!
