Hal Stevens loves to play baseball but is intimidated by his father, a famous former third baseman. This was until this season. His mom Ellen Stevens and his dad had divorced each other about 6 years ago. Since that time his dad remarried and he and his mom had moved three times. This time he had moved to Cannon City where Hal went Cannon City High.
The main conflict in the story is a character verses a character. The two characters are Hal Stevens and Ralph Stevens. The conflict describes how Hal Stevens is always trying to be like his dad, a third basemen and a slug hitter. Ralph Stevens, Hals dad, wants Hal to be just like him, but he isnt. He is a second basemen and not a slug hitter.
The Climax of the story is when Coach Don Mavis calls Hal to his office to tell Hal. He wants him to play second base and he wants him to use a lighter bat. The coach moved Warner, the former second baseman, to left field. The Falling action of the story is when Warner quits the team the baseball team. Then they lose their biggest game of the season.
