Oh my God, this is the first book i ever read from start to finish. This a great book in the 80's book genre(yes it is it's own genre).Foghorn Ami is very relateable and is great to read for any age. This book is timeless and can be read at any time. Go to your local library and find this book because it is a great book and a great teenager book. The friendship between Ami and her best friend is great and fun to read and their crushes are great.

This is a great book about friendship and parental separation. Ami's relationship with her friend is tested by her feeling of abandonment by her parents' separating. I love how when she and her friend always share the homemade ice cream (they have 3 new flavors each day & they always order all three and share) and to hurt emily, Ami purposely scarfs her cone down to show her she doesn't want to share. It speaks volumes.

Another great scene is when Ami goes to visit her mom who now has a little apartment. She describes the place and part of her is seeing her mom as her own person and feeling like she doesn't know her or what she'll do next. The other part of her is seeing her mom as free now, which I think confuses her.

This is a wonderful book that has so much emotion in it and is funny and touching.
