Guy Longhead. Jasper of the Sinister Hand. Hurst Orricson. Holt, also Orricson, brother of Hurst. To anyone else, just four names. But to Rowan Hood, the gentle healer who has waited two long years to put names to the men who murdered her mother, they are fuel to feed her desire for revenge. And so she leaves the rowan grove that has become her home in Sherwood Forest, and along with her friends, she sets off to seek these men. Yet she finds that the closer she draws to them, the farther she feels from the healer she has become. Nancy Springer has written a dramatic, stirring final chapter to a series that has only grown stronger with each new tale.

Rowan lives in the woods with only her father, Robin Hood, and her friends Etty and Lionel- her mother has been killed. Rowan, known as "an archer with a healer's hand" promises to avenge her mother, leaving the wood to seek the killers and dragging Etty, who was once a princess, and Lionel, who loves nothing more than singing, along with her.

I picked up this book at the town book sale because it looked good and the price was incredibly cheap, but I had never read any of the other books in the series. Though I enjoyed this book very much, I think it would have been better if I had all ready read the other books and gotten to know Rowan before this story.

Rowan Hood Returns does not rely that much on any other book in the series (I don't think- like I said, I've never read them) so if you want to read it by itself you will probably understand it just fine.
