Flavia Gemina is the daughter of one of the most successful sea captains in Ostia. But when her neighbors beloved guard dog is found beheaded, Flavia is convinced something is wrong. More and more dogs end up disappearing and Flavia is determined to find out why. Together with her neighbor Jonathan, a slave girl name Nubia, and a mute boy named Lupus, this girl is on a mission to find the truth!

The best part about this book was the historical details. The plot itself lacked a lot of depth, although I didnt guess the ending way beforehand like in many mysteries. The characters are rather one-dimensional, and Flavia seems really naïve, even if she is a 10-year-old. Perfect for those interested in mysteies and Ancient Roman times.
