Matt Cruse is a cabin boy on the Aurora, a huge airship that sails hundreds of feet above the ocean, ferrying wealthy passengers from city to city. It is the life Matt's always wanted; convinced he's lighter than air, he imagines himself as buoyant as the hydrium gas that powers his ship. One night he meets a dying balloonist who speaks of beautiful creatures drifting through the skies. It is only after Matt meets the balloonist's granddaughter that he realizes that the man's ravings may, in fact, have been true, and that the creatures are completely real and utterly mysterious.

In a swashbuckling adventure reminiscent of Jules Verne and Robert Louis Stevenson, Kenneth Oppel, author of the best-selling Silverwing trilogy, creates an imagined world in which the air is populated by transcontinental voyagers, pirates, and beings never before dreamed of by the humans who sail the skies.

Airborn is a romance story with a twist of adventure. The first few chapters are a bit boring but like most other books, the book gets to a point where you just can't put it down!!!!!!

This is a great book!!! I am so excited after reading it. The details, the characters, the writing are all great! This is the first really good book I have read in a while and the best part is it is about something completely new and original. Yes, when I first picked up this book and saw that it was about strange creatures flying around airships I thought the plot to most likely be ridiculous... Well... boy was I wrong! I am a slow reader and I even read this book relatively quickly due to the fact that I couldn't put it down. All I can say is the next chance I get, I am off to Borders the get the second book in this series.

The story Airborn, is about a boy and his adventures on an airship. 15 year old Matt Cruse was a cabin boy on this beautiful and luxurious airship. When they land onto the Aurora, two passengers, Kate de Vries and her caretaker Miss Marjorie Simpkins enter Matt's Life. When Matt learns that the old man he had saved was Kate's grandfather, he is thrown into her crazy world. When Pirates led by the infamous Vikram Szpirglas, board the ship and threaten to take down the Aurora, Matt and the rest of the passengers are forced to do as he says.

I absolutly loved this story. The way Kenneth Oppel portrayed Matt was absolutly genius. In a way, i as a reader could greatly relate to Matt. I loved how Oppel introduced you into the story and slowly led you through the adventure. Anyone who loves to read books on adventure and fantasy would definetly love to read this. This book defienetly hits all the right spots in a good book!

Airborn is an INCREDIBLE book. I think the reason its so good is because it has a little bit of very thing. Theres plenty of adventure, a bit of fantasy, some mystery, lots of reality, and a pinch of romance. A little bit for everyone. Matt is just a normal kid. Hes not rich, or a genius, or has some sort of gift. Hes just lucky enough to work on an airship. And then on a day just like any other, he rescues a rogue hot air balloon whos captain seems crazy, talking about beautiful creatures soaring around in the skies.

Later Matt meets the balloonists adventurous granddaughter, Kate, and finds out these creatures maybe are real after all. A notorious pirate attacks the ship, and after being robbed they crash land on a deserted, uncharted island in the middle of the Pacificus. They discover that the creatures are really real, and they are amazing. Cats that fly and are lighter than air. They also discover one who was crippled at birth and lives on the island. Of course, Kate wants pictures to show the snotty rich scientists to prove herself right. And that proves difficult after discovering that the island they landed on is the pirates headquarters.

With a mix of fabulous characters, Airborn is one of the best books Ive ever read. Theres Kate, who is bound and determined to get what she wants, Vlad, the crazy chef with amazing talent, Baz, the comical roommate, and Szpirglas, the dashing pirate. This book keeps you reading til the end, and then you have to go back and read it again, jus to be sure you didnt miss a thing.

The main character is Matt. Matt loves to fly, not on a ship in the ocean, or even an airplane, but on an airship. In this book airships is the main method of transportation. Matt is just a low-life worker on an airship. However, he meets a girl named Kate on the ship, who was a passenger. Together they discover something amazing.

It's a really good book. It seems kind of out there, but it all makes sense once one reads it. The author has a lot of creativity, and this is evident based on this book. It's a rather long book, but I read it in a short amount of time.

This book is superb. Matt works on an airship and loves being up in the air. One day he meets a girl named Kate and has a huge adventure with her. This book has everything from air pirates to secret islands. I enjoyed how this book kept you guessing what would happen next and that it was fast paced enough so that you don't get bored. Overall great read.

Airborn is a classic adventure tale with an alternate-reality twist. Oppel has very beautiful descriptions and his characters do not lack in the personnality departement. The passion of the protagonist for the "airships" is clear on every page.
This book is more suitable for maybe middle-school boys. Not that girls or older people can't enjoy it. I just think that's the crowd that yould enjoy it the most.
