GOOD NIGHT, LITTLE DUCKLING follows a little duckling after he hatches and decides to go for an adventure. Although his mother warns him not to leave the nest while she goes to get food as he might get lost, he ventures out into the water. He explores and follows a dragonfly, soon to realize he does not know where he is anymore. Luckily, a frog comes to help him find his way back home. When he arrives, he finds his brother and sisters have also hatched and his mother has returned just in time for bedtime.

What I loved: The illustrations are really unique in this series, featuring photographs of the featured baby animal along with sketched backgrounds and side characters. This unique style adds a lot of interest. The story is fairly detailed with enough text that it will work for preschoolers and early elementary school aged readers.

What left me wanting more: As a bedtime story, I found it a little intense with the duckling getting lost, though this is resolved quickly, so may not trouble young readers. I also was concerned about the way the duckling finds his way back - by following a stranger. I am not sure about the message this sends and would have preferred if he found his own way by retracing his steps or by his mother finding him.

Final verdict: An intriguing picture book, GOODNIGHT, LITTLE DUCKLING features clever artwork and a story of a duckling's adventure that will work for preschoolers and young elementary school readers.
