‘Wash Your Hands!’ by Margaret McNamara, illustrated by Mike Gordon, is a Ready to Read book. The story, while simple, conveys an easy-to-understand plot, in that there are germs aplenty going around, and Mrs. Connor, the teacher, wants to explain just what germs are and how to get rid of them effectively. She asks her students to show her how hand washing is supposed to go, and while one child sticks his hand underneath cold water, and another pumps out some soap and rinses her hands, Mrs. Connor makes it clear that it takes a little bit more effort to do a good job in ridding yourself of germs.

The class soon learns that a song is the answer, and they all find themselves singing together in the bathroom about hand washing. Any child will enjoy the tune, especially with how easy it is to sing along to the ABCs, and the message will come across loud and clear.

This easy-to-read book with sight words, dialogue, and a very familiar topic is a great way to enjoy reading as well as learn about something important that happens every day!
