Heroes Everywhere!: A Lift-the-Flap Adventure (PJ Masks)Featured
After finding a magical crystal, Gekko gains the power to instantly travel anywhere he wants! But now Gekko doesn’t want to wait for Catboy and Owlette. How can the PJ Masks still work as a team? Lift the seventy-five flaps and follow along as the heroes travel from HQ to Mystery Mountain, the Flying Factory, and more!
What I loved: The overall message is a fun one, and children can appreciate the straight-forward messages that reiterate the core theme. There are a couple villains acting out in this book, so there is a lot of action in the story, told within a few pages. For toddlers who love to lift flaps, there is certainly a lot of that on each page. There are 75 flaps in only 12 pages. Each flap contains some text and most also contain illustrations hidden with them.
What left me wanting more: The flaps were maybe a bit too numerous, and the order in which they should be read was not totally clear. They did not form a cohesive story, and some of them were definitely just filler text. I think they may have gone over better if they were just images or behind the scenes types of flaps. In many places, there seemed to just be flaps for the sake of it. The flaps themselves were not terribly sturdy, and a few ripped the first time they were opened, as the edges needed to be separated while opening. There are so many that it wasn't a big deal, but any children who tend the rip-the-flaps will definitely do so in this book. They were maybe a little thinner than some cardstock. As a small point, the action may be a bit intense for some children, as well as the prospect of getting something stuck on you. I would caution sensitive readers.
Final verdict: For fans of PJ Masks and lift-the-flaps, HEROES EVERYWHERE! is a flap-filled adventure as Gekko learns about the power of teamwork. Recommend for preschoolers who are fans of the show.
