Let's start with a hi-five HELLO!
For toddlers and preschoolers, what's the most fun way to greet anyone they meet? A handshake? Too formal. A hug? Too scary. The answer is a hi-five, of course! Even in this time of social distancing, little ones can practice hi-fiving adorable farm animals while also learning about opposites!
With his flair for hilarious cartooning and charismatic characters, author-artist Ross Burach crafts another brilliant concept board book that will have little ones laughing and hi-fiving their way to developing critical social-emotional and gross motor skills.
What I loved: This was a silly and delightful book. The expressive animals and bright colors make for a truly fun experience for young children. The large, proffered hands of each of the animals will enchant young children who are learning hi-fives. The text is very simple, but it also teaches about some opposites, including fast and slow, whisper and loud, and left and right. These are all things that caregivers will have to help model while reading the book, but this educational note takes the fun of the book a step further.
The book itself is very sturdy (particularly important when you have an enthusiastic toddler offering hi-fives), and I appreciated the thick board book pages that will stand up to tough toddler love. The writing is large and easy to read at a distance, and the words are limited, making the pages turn as quickly as little brains would like and helping with early reading recognition in toddlers and preschoolers.
Final verdict: A fun and interactive board book, HI-FIVE FARM! is a delightful read for toddlers and preschoolers to explore opposites, farm animals, and the power of their own hands.
