The Garbage Pail Kids are a staple of my childhood. In fact, they are older than me. A gross parody of the Cabbage Patch dolls, Garbage Pail Kids have unique and often smelly abilities. In this new series from children's horror author RL Stine, the kids are grosser, smellier, and get into way more trouble. Thrills and Chills is the second book of the series, and while it is best to have read book one, it isn't necessary to understand what is going on. In this installment, the Garbage Pail Kids are desperate to win the Smellville Pet Contest and the grand prize, a free all-day trip to Six Thrills Amusement Park. But how can they win against the Perfect twins? With the help of five new kids who also call themselves Garbage Pail Kids of course!

I enjoyed taking a trip back to my childhood. Not only are the Garbage Pail Kids just as gross as I remember them to be, but Stine is a master of children's horror, keeping us on the edge of our seat, leaving us hanging and begging for more. My ten year old enjoyed this one more than the Goosebumps books, I think because of the illustrations, but also the humor that accompanies the gross-factor the kids.

Final Thoughts: Thrills and Chills is a perfect throw back to your childhood and a way to introduce young readers to the master author RL Stine.
