Angelina Ballerina at Ballet School
Angelina can’t wait to go to Miss Lilly’s Ballet School again after summer break. But then Angelina accidentally embarrasses herself in front of the whole class, and suddenly, she isn’t so enthusiastic about returning to ballet school anymore. With the encouragement of her family and friends, Angelina learns that everyone makes mistakes, but that shouldn’t stop her from doing what she loves most: dancing!
The next day, Angelina isn't sure she wants to go to school, but she soon learns that with some apologies and a discussion with her teacher about safety that she can continue to innovate and create more cool, new moves.
What I loved: This is a fun story with Angelina that shows how everyone can make mistakes as well as how to make things better when they happen. The illustrations are full of color and details that make this a great book to look through. The story flows smoothly, and children will relate to the story of excitement, mishaps, and then nerves after something goes wrong. The book suggests methods to use after a mistake, including apologizing to those that might have been hurt or troubled and moving forward in a new way.
The text is a bit dense in places, which may make this better for elementary school aged readers vs toddlers and preschoolers.
Final verdict: A picture book about making mistakes and moving on, ANGELINA BALLERINA AT BALLET SCHOOL is a cute new story with a beloved character.
