JET THE CAT (IS NOT A CAT) is a charming picture book about a cat who does not quite fit the label. Jet loves to pounce, sprawl, and swim, just like all cats - or so she thinks until another cat tells her that cats do not like to swim, and therefore, she must be a frog. Jet accepts this and lists all the ways she is like all frogs, except that the new label doesn't quite fit either. The book continues with Jet not being like the other animals until she finally decides she has had enough and will just be herself - a cat unlike other cats.

What I loved: This is ultimately a book about self-assuredness and embracing your differences. Jet is like all other cats in some ways, but different in others, and all of them are to be celebrated by the end of the book. The book tackles this topic with a lot of humor that is sure to make young readers giggle. There are definitely some animal facts that they will pick up on quickly as being incorrect, particularly the inability to fly, like all birds (or not). Brightly colored illustrations with lots of expressive animals and fun background details add to the charm and good-natured humor of this picture book.

The book is easy to read and understand, and I appreciated the clear, bold font that makes it a good pick for a bedtime book. The themes, illustrations, and humor make this a win for toddlers through elementary school aged readers.

Final verdict: With fantastic artwork and a silly story with a great lesson, JET THE CAT (IS NOT A CAT) is a picture book about self-acceptance and embracing our differences.
