THE BEAR IN THE BOAT is a sweet story of kindness and helping your neighbors. A storm is arriving, and the animals who live near it are worried about a flood. Luckily, Bear is there with a plan for each of them to help them weather the storm. However, the storm gets worse than they anticipated, and soon, it's even at Bear's door. Luckily, the animals work together and they are able to make it through to the other side with Bear's boat, everyone's help, and some food from Squirrel.

What I loved: This was a sweet story about looking out for your neighbors, helping others, and kindness. Bear and friends will delight young readers, and although the plans don't work out as expected, Bear is able to persist with the help of friends. This resilience is also important to see. The illustrations add to the story with bright colors, fun details, and delightful animals and personified homes. The characters are sure to charm readers.

The story is told through both the images and illustrations, making this a great one to read aloud. Additionally, the font is clearly printed without large amounts on each page, making the pages turn at a pace that will work for toddlers through elementary school aged readers.

Final verdict: A sweet story of kindness and helping others, THE BEAR IN THE BOAT is a picture book that will charm young readers with the lovely illustrations and story with supportive friends. Recommend for toddler through elementary school aged readers.
