THE LAST HAZELNUT is a sweet picture book about friendship, forgiveness, and sharing. Tim and Teo are best friends, and one day, Tim brings a bunch of hazelnuts to share. The head to the top of the mountain to eat them. When they realize the hazelnuts are gone, both are surprised, thinking the other was so selfish to have eaten the last one without telling the other. They each head home angry. The next day, they each miss their friend and then head to apologize. They decide to share again, and this time, they make a new plan for the last hazelnut.

What I loved: The brightly colored and whimsical illustrations of this story add to the fun. There are so many great details in the images that will keep children entertained. The story is one that young readers can grasp - fighting with friends is never easy, but with apologies, understanding, and some generosity, they can move forward together. Tim and Teo's story sets a good example of friendship and forgiveness and also hints to the need not to jump to conclusions. I also loved the silly fun of the ending with the two ultimately deciding to share and then roll down the mountain together.

Final verdict: A sweet picture book of friendship, forgiveness, and sharing, THE LAST HAZELNUT is sure to resonate with young readers. This would be perfect for the preschool through elementary school aged crowd.
