If You Plant a Seed
“Timeless and delectable.”—School Library Journal
If you plant a carrot seed . . . a carrot will grow.
If you plant a cabbage seed . . . cabbage will grow.
But what happens if you plant a seed of kindness . . . or selfishness?
With spare text and breathtaking oil paintings, If You Plant a Seed demonstrates not only the process of planting and growing for young children but also how a seed of kindness can bear sweet fruit.
What I loved: This is an artistic book, which is mostly told in images rather than words. This sparse narration makes the board book great for infants who will enjoy looking through the pictures. The book also has appeal for toddlers, who will begin to grasp the storyline and lessons within about sharing and being kind. The illustrations are really lovely, and a favorite for our little one is the page spread of the birds, where it seems like they are looking at the reader. Children who love animals will enjoy these illustrations with very realistic looking creatures within.
Final verdict: With a straight-forward lesson about sharing and kindness conveyed through lovely illustrations, IF YOU PLANT A SEED is a great pick for little ones.
