A working mother reassures her child that even when they’re apart, they’re always in each other’s hearts. This lovely board book is perfect for moms to share with their little ones.

Though we’re not together
we’re never truly apart,
because you’re always on my mind
and you’re always in my heart.

This is what a mother tells her child as she leaves for work each day. This lovely board book perfectly captures the sentiment that many women feel about being a working mom. The lyrical text takes us through a mother’s day away, showing us that although she’s working hard, her child is always on her mind and always in her heart.

IN MY HEART shows how strong the love of a mother is even when she and the child are apart. When mom has to work and the daughter goes to school/daycare, the mom reminds her that she is always in her heart. The different things she does and sees reminds her of her daughter in unique ways. For example, at lunch the mom thinks about how she and her daughter are eating the same meal.

The message of the story is that no matter where the daughter is, she's always in the mom's heart. I love the main quote "Though we're not together we're never truly apart because you're always on my mind and you're always in my heart." This is the perfect book for those children who are going to be starting school and are afraid to leave their parents. The bond between a mother and child isn't severed by distance and this book really shows that.

Final Verdict: This is perfect for working moms to read to their children who are afraid or unsure about being separated. This uplifting story will stick with them while they're doing their thing and you're doing yours.

IN MY HEART is a beautiful board book that celebrates the love between mother and child. Delving into the ways that a working mother feels connected to her child during the day, this lovely poem is ultimately about love and connection, even when apart. During the day, she sneaks peeks at photos of her child during meetings, knows that they will eat the same lunch, and doodles while on the phone reminiscent of her child's artwork. These connection points will resonate with mothers who likely do some of the same things in their own lives.

What I loved: The context for the book is absolutely fantastic. It celebrates a working mother and her love of her child, reminding the child that they are never truly apart because the child is always on her mind and in her heart. This lovely sentiment is conveyed throughout the book. The illustrations are lovely with plenty of bright colors and fun details that really appeal to the youngest readers. Toddlers will definitely connect with the rhyming text and gorgeous drawings. I also really love the racial diversity of the characters shown, which is also really important.

Final verdict: A gorgeous celebration of the love between working mother and child, this board book delivers a great message, beautiful illustrations, and charming rhymes that will appeal to toddlers and preschoolers and their parents alike.
