WHEN I LOOK UP is a lovely story to capture a child's imagination. Told in brief rhymes like poetry, the book describes what you can see when you look up, as well as what the girl pictured wonders, wishes, or dreams. With full-page colored images that expand the imagination even further. The ending has a cute message about being happy with your life as it is.

What I loved: Filled with the wonderment of childhood and the breadth of imagination, this book is simply delightful. The poetry of the text is charming and is accompanied by descriptive and playful images that encourage the reader to also imagine more from the world around them. With a sweet ending message, the book is a delight to read.

The amount of text to images is perfect, and pages turn relatively quickly, making this a great book even for the preschool audience. Elementary schoolers will enjoy the overall length, which captures many possibilities without being too short or too lengthy. Colorful images with many characters (including some diversity) and animals are fun for young readers to explore.

Final verdict: Overall, this is an enjoyable celebration of childhood and imagination. With rhyming text and charming illustrations, WHEN I LOOK UP is a fun book to share with your young dreamer.
