Pete the Cat's Groovy Guide to Love
This charming little hardback diverges from most in the Pete the Cat collection in that it doesn’t actually convey a plot or story. Instead it offers a wide range of famous quotes on love, and a simplified and/or restated interpretation of said quotes from Pete the Cat.
(i.e. “Love is the greatest refreshment in life.” –Pablo Picasso = “Cheers. Here’s to love.” –Pete)
Anyone hoping for a broad representation of age-old maxims won’t be disappointed. The quotes vary in origin from to John Lennon to Confucius to 1st Corinthians. And while half of the material is inherently lacking in originality, the approach has the potential to unlock further discussion between parents and children.
The basic, colorful illustrations are tailored to each quote/concept in the same style that fans have come to expect. My 7 and 5-year-old seemed to favor this one far and above several of the more recent books in the series, so the divergence in execution may actually be a welcome treat for kids who’ve come to expect a certain formula.
