In Bug Off! readers meet thirteen bugs in playful, humorous poems and startling, intimate photographs. Nonfiction prose paragraphs broaden the perspective: Children will learn how bees make honey, that many butterflies can taste food with their feet, that lovebugs can fly higher than the Empire State Building, and much more. The subjects will be familiar to kids—a fly, praying mantis, honeybee, butterfly, daddy longlegs, lovebug, dragonfly, tick, ladybug, spider, grasshopper, ants, and a swarm of bugs—but the poems, photographs, and nonfiction passages present them in eye-opening new ways. Includes an author’s note that encourages readers to write their own bug poems.

Right now my oldest son is all about poems. So, this book was a huge hit in my household right off the bat. Not only is the book about bugs (I mean come on, boys love bugs!), but there are wonderful poems and facts about all kinds of bugs! From a fly to a grasshopper, this book has it all. Fun, wonderful poems will delight you readers with every page. Colorful pictures (real pictures) color every page and the quality is superb.

I love any book that encourages not only reading, but learning in children. This book does just that. My boys and I learned a great deal about all the bugs featured in the poems. I highly recommend this book for the poetry and bug lover in your life!
