If you give a cat a cupcake, he'll ask for some sprinkles to go with it. When you give him the sprinkles, he might spill some on the floor. Cleaning up will make him hot, so you'll give him a bathing suit . . . and that's just the beginning!

The lovable cat who first appeared in If You Give a Pig a Party now has his very own book! Written in the tradition of the bestselling If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond's newest story will show everyone that Cat is where it's at!

First off, I love how the cat is a boy! Cats are portrayed as girls so often that it’s refreshing to see a feisty, cupcake-loving little tom features as the main cat character in this picture book. I’d say that this is a good portrayal of a cat: nutty, hyperactive, easily distracted, demanding and somewhat destructive. I liked the sequence of events in this book, especially when the cat decided he needed to work out. Karate kitty would be quite ferocious, I imagine.

Felicia Bond’s illustrations are really adorable, as always. She and Laura Numeroff are a great team when it comes to making very cute stories about animals. My only fault with the illustrations is that while the cat is expressive and shows a lot of emotions while the little girl only has a few different expressions. I loved the cat’s wild and excited looks, but the girl seemed bland in comparison. I’m not sure if this was done to emphasize the role of the cat and deemphasize the role of the girl, but I would have liked it if she had been given more feeling through the drawings.

Overall, this is yet another winner from Numeroff and Bond. If you or a kid you know needs a good giggle or just a smile, this book would be one to pick up.
