About This Book:

Hope doesn’t only want to listen to her father’s stories about his voyages at sea, she wants to be part of those stories.

And so, unbeknownst to her parents, she stows away on her father’s 19th-century merchant vessel. But look… The wind has picked up and the sky is darkening…

Could there be such a thing as an adventure that is too exciting?

Join high-spirited Hope on a trip of a lifetime in this exquisitely illustrated picture book that also captures the love between a father and child.

Beautifully Illustrated Father and Daughter Adventure

HOPE AT SEA follows a little girl who sneaks onto a ship to be with her father. He’s a carpenter who makes sure they make it back to port. Instead of hearing all about his stories, she wants to live them. She wants to feel that adventure herself, so she hides until her father discovers her. As the ship continues its journey, she finds herself in the middle of it all and she isn’t one to sit idly by if there’s something she can do to help. As the days go by, she learns more and more about what it means to be a sailor.

The illustrations are stunning with all of the details, especially of the water. Daniel Miyares also displays the bond between children and their parents. The father and daughter relationship we see is inspiring along with the adventure they take together. It makes me want to take my daughter somewhere. But not only does the girl go on this adventure, she submerses herself in it and learns the daily tasks aboard a ship.

Final Verdict: A beautifully crafted story about a father/daughter adventure like no other. I would recommend this to fans of the sea, adventures, and family situations. The illustrations are captivating to go along with the author’s engaging writing style.
