A wonderful book about an amazing woman.
The Story:
Kamala Harris has lived quite the life. Raised as the daughter of immigrants, she has made history at every step of her life in multiple ways. She never stopped fighting for justice no matter where she has lived. From a young age, she wanted to do what was right.
What I loved:
Everything. This story is the perfect introduction for young people into this amazing woman. The book starts out when she's very young and takes the reader on an adventure through her life from childhood to adulthood, highlighting her accomplishments but also sharing personal stories. The author must have had a lot of conversations with Kamala for this book because it feels like it could have been written by her.
It's written in an engaging way that emphasizes how important many of these issues are and it teaches at the same time it tells a story.
The artwork is fun and colorful and gorgeous, keeping kids glued to the pages. There's nothing not to love here.
Final Verdict: A book worthy of its subject, Kamala Harris: Rooted in Justice is the kind of story all kids should read about our elected officials, humanizing them in a way that is sure to inspire them.
