NONSENSE! THE CURIOUS STORY OF EDWARD GOREY is a fantastic biography in the form of poetry and images that are reminiscent of Edward Gorey's style. The book is quite fascinating, and the poem really brings Edward Gorey's story to life. Gorey was very smart and taught himself to read when he was three. He was heading to Harvard, when WWII waylaid his plans. When he did attend, he was inspired by the people around before working at a publisher on other people's books. He started to create his own in his free time and created his own publishing company.

A lot of people rejected his books for being too creepy, but he really paved the way to a new style which is emanated by more modern texts like Lemony Snicket and Tim Burton.

What I loved: This is really a fascinating biography that pays homage to Gorey through the lyrical text and stylistic illustrations. Gorey's life is really interesting and inspirational in the way that he may have had stumbling blocks and faced rejection but still managed to create some iconic books and stay true to his own style.

The picture book is great for elementary school-aged readers and older- even adults may enjoy picking this one up!

Final verdict: Engaging and artistically rendered, NONSENSE! is a clever biography in picture book format that is enjoyable for readers of many ages.
