Adeline Yen Mah in my opinion out did her self. This was an amazing book about a child who is constantly looked down upon when all she wants to do is be loved for who she is. Ms. Yen Mah takes you on a journey through her childhood introducing you to her caring Aunt, her loving grandparents, her siblings, her father (who did not pay any attention to her at all), and then to her stepmother a woman who it was hard not to realize that she was the villain within the story. She cared nothing at all for Adeline only for herself and her children.Yet Adeline continued even through her sadness to one day tell the story of a daughter who was unwanted and at times unloved by those whose love she wanted the most. This was a sad yet brilliant story that i would recommend to anyone.
This book is soo incredibly sad, so be sure to have tissues ready for this one. Chinese Cinerella story is beased on the memoir of Adeline Yen Mah in her childhood days. Her mother died while giving birth to her, so her sister and brothers claim her as the badluck child, having the only acceptance by her loving caring aunt. Her father was a wealthy buisness man, who ended up falling in love with a very young Eurasion woman and got married and had two kids. The stepmother seemed to despise all her step children, seeming to pick on Adeline the most. She was a manipulative woman, who got whatever she pleased. Adeline's father never seemed to praise Adeline when accomplishments were done, only paying attention to his new wife and their kids. With unfair rights, Adeline bears with it, going through every day as an unwanted child.
If you happen to read this story, be sure to read the sequel, Falling Leaves. It continues from where she had left off, explaining even further more of her adulthood life and how her stepmother still seem to toy with her life as much as possible. And her father knows it, but he also realizes that his wife is out of control ever since her son had died and her daughter (in her words) "betrayed" her. There was no stopping this woman, for she would outsmart anyone.
(Personal Note) The stepmother will honestly want to make you take every single person like herself off of this Earth for they have no dignity to be here. Coldhearted, selfish, rude, heartless, indespictable, shameful, every negative word in the dictionary is made for that woman. Its people like her that make this world an even worse place then it should be.
Adeline Yen Mah has probably had the worst childhood. Do you know the story, Cinderella? You probably do right? Well, Ms.Adeline's life is like hers. They both have stepmothers that mistreat them. They also have cruel stepsiblings. What a life!!!
"Chinese Cinderella" is a heart-wrenching and sorrowful tale of a young girl growing up in a classic Cinderella setting. Treated harshly by her step-mother and ignored by her father, Adeline's life seems doomed to perpetual sadness. Every time something arrives to lighten up her life, it is taken away from her. She has to deal with loneliness and despair, but throughout the story she never gives up hope, that someday, somehow, things will get better.
This book told the story of a very badly neglected and unloved child and how she, in the end, was victorious. All through this book our cinderella is victimised and hurt repeatedly by her family and struggles with issues and problems that some of us could not even imagine. Though she goes through a lot in the end our cinderella's wish comes true and we see how real perseverance and believing in your dreams and not giving in can pay off no matter what the circumstances. Definately worth a read, though in places it was slightly distressing.
I read this book about 3 years ago and it still stands out vividly in my memory. The story of this girl is so sad, I cannot imagine living a life like that. I was in school reading it and I actually cried in some parts, because I culd not iamgine myself in those situations. I will not ruin it by saying too much, but it is definitely worth a read and it will open your eyes to how good your life actually is. (I hope it isn't worse than hers!)
the book is about a girl whos mother died while giving berth to her.Now the family consider the girl bad luck but her Aunt baba is there for her though. The girl is very smart and brave.
The lady who wrote this book was the girl and has now become a writer.
Chinese Cinderella is the true story of an unwanted daughter. Set in China, it tells of the author's painful childhood. Adeline was considered unlucky because her mother had died giving birth to her. Her father remarries and her new stepmother has two kids, whom she spoils. However, Adeline is neglected and is shipped out to boarding school. Though Adeline earns high grades in school, it is her family's love and care that she longs for. This was a story that moved me to tears. I recommend it to everyone. Find out if this story has a happy ending.
Adeline Yen Mah tells a wonderful account of her Cinderella life. As a young girl she is neglected and forgotten by her parents. But, can she live through it and make something of her life? This book is a little sad, but leaves you with a satisfied feeling afterward. It just makes you thankful that you live here and now, with great parents and siblings.
A touching reincarnation of the classic Cinderella Story but with a more serious side. A touching autobiography by the author. It was a joy and also a depressant to read. The little girl that no one wants to be friends with. The little girl so forgotten, her father can't even remember her name. This is the story of Wu Mei, the forgotten child. This is a gift to read and I highly recommed this to anyone who wants an excellent book.
