The Thief Lord is written by Cornelia Funke and is definitely one of her best books. I read this book over the summer and could not put it down. It has a very intriguing plot that is not only mysterious but also very clever. It has won many awards including New York Times Bestseller, USA Today Bestseller, Book Sense Book of the Year Award, School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, and is a winner of the Mildred L. Batchelder Award.

This book is about two young brothers named Prosper and Bo who run away from their horrid aunt and end up in Venice Italy. They are forced to fend for themselves living on the streets. They begin to worry about their own survival and are in greatly need of help when the Thief Lord shows up and gives them an offer they can't refuse. Prosper and Bo ends up joining the Thief Lord and his gang of street children who tend to get into a lot of trouble.

The Thief Lord gets his name from the fact that he steals so that the others can survive. He is very mysterious and the gang doesn't know as much as they think they do about him. He has a truly dark secret that if ever found out would change everyone's lives including Prosper and Bo's.

This story is filled with adventure and fantasy. It is also now a movie that I would love to see. It is one of my favorite books by one of my favorite author's and I completely adored reading it. I hope if you ever get the chance to read this book you will find it as amazing as I did.

There were several things I enjoyed about this book. I liked the adventure the two lead characters, Prosper and Bo went on together. How they watched over each other. I thought the character of the thief lord was a clever idea. A street boy who claims to be and is the leader to a bunch of street kids. He makes all the kids think he is just like all them. However, in a surprising twist, you find he is not at all like the street kids. I loved that whole premise.

My favorite part was the merry-go-round. The way the writer described it made it so real. The fact that the kids had to find the missing part that made it run was cool. What the merry-go-round does is even more amazing and truly magical.

I loved the idea, the characters and it kept me interested.

I adored this book! Best book ever! When I read it I felt like
I was in the book with Prosper and Bo. I could seen every little thing in my mind! I'm reading it again for the second time and it feels like coming home. I most say Mrs. Funke is very talented. If you like adventure or mystery you will surely love this book!

Throughout the book you stay curius and wanting to read more and more. At the beginning you get a suspicious feeling about the Thief Lord. So you stay reading to figure it out. Once you do, you just can't stop reading because it is so good. But part of the best part is the fact it takes place in Venice. It is so interesting and you get a feeling that you are there with them while you are reading. The author knows how to keep you on your toes.
