Finally at 21 years of age, I get the chance to read this! I've been waiting for quite some time. A time when I could read them back to back, with no interruptions. And that time is now! I loved all the movies, so I was pretty sure I'd love the books just as much.
The adventures of Harry, Ron, and Hermonie are so great that I wished I was children with them! The tales they weave and the trouble they get in is such a great pace for children. Something that the movies left out is a lot of things about Neville! I loved him in the movies! :)
Rowling is such an amazing storyteller, and I really wished I had read these before.
What an incredible world J.K. Rowling built. I loved it, and was officially addicted to all things Harry Potter by the end of the book. Hogwarts is magical, the villain is scary, and despite creating a huge cast of characters, Rowling is able to make each character distinct and interesting. The plot is fabulous, the seeds of an amazing series are well-laid, and even though the beginning is slow, I recommend this book to everyone.
J.K Rowlings Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone takes place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the present day. When a 12 year old boy named Harry Potter, starts his first year at Hogwarts, he meets his two best friends Ron and Hermione. Then, strange things begin to happen. Students in the school are getting killed and everyone cant figure out why this is happening. A teacher in the school is acting very strange, while Albus Dumbledore, the head master of the school, and other teachers suspect the evil Lord Voldemorts powers are gradually becoming stronger and that he is the one causing all of this. Everyone says the evil Lord Voldemort has lost his powers, or has he? Harry, Ron, and Hermione try to solve why these terrible crises are happening in the school. Who is behind all this? Has Lord Voldemort risen again, or is someone else causing all this trouble?
Rowlings famous, first book of the series is a very well written, suspenseful, exciting book that wont let you stop reading. Every page you turn leads to another exciting event. This book isnt like any other books. Rowling said, The idea just simply fell into my head. This book has won the National Book Award (UK), the Gold Medal Smarties Prize, and the Parenting Book of the Year.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is a really good book for ages around 12 all the way to adults. This book isnt anywhere similar to a book you might read. For people who love fantasy and magic, this is the perfect book for you. Once you finish this book, you wont be able to wait to read the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, of this terrific series.
I had very high hopes for it because it is so popular, but I guess popular opinion is stupid. I can see why elementary and middle graders would like this, but the teens and adults who like the book must be very stupid and uneducated.
I was thoroughly disappointed.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the first of seven Harry Potter books. Harry Potter seems to be just an average boy with a random light bolt scar but turns out he is anything but average. He is a wizard. On his eleventh birthday strange things start to happen. Owls are flying around his house in bright sunny daylight dropping letters for him everywhere. The Dursleys whom he lives with is not happy about this. Harry can tell they know something that theyre not telling him. The letters he receives says he is going to the best school of witchcraft and wizardry, Hogwarts. He goes but with many questions.Harry meets a few friends along the way and finds some trouble. As Harry learns of his about past, he learns more quickly that it isnt as unknown as he thought, the whole Wizarding World knows hes name and hes story. With hes fame comes enemies he would never have dream. Good friends, good laughs, and has its share of trouble.
Great! This was one of my all around favorite books ever, it had tons of suprises and I couldn't put it down long enough to fall asleep I stayed up all night for two nights finishing it and still wanted more! This book is great and is about an orphaned boy staying with his aunt and uncle who torment him and treat him like a rat! Then one day a letter comes for him in the mail and before he can read it his cousin Dudley has it and gave it to his uncle who will not alow him to read it soon when the letters start pilling up moves to an island and when a huge man comes busting throw a door saying that he is a wizard he soon goes to the wichcraft and wizardry school Hogwarts he runs into the very person who killed his parents Voldemort! Who by the way wants him DEAD! Find out who will win the battle and who will die, or if anyone will die at all in this amazing, heart pounding book!
The Harry Potter books are something everyone can enjoy. My 24 year old cousin still reads them! :D J.K Rowling is very talented and she definately sparks the imagination of young readers. This is a must-read. I'm surprised I haven't read books 4 and 5 yet! :o
I love this book out of the Harry Potter series more than any of the other books. I love how J.K. Rowling starts it, ends it, and everything in the middle. My favorite part of this book was most definitely when Harry, Ron, and Hermione were going through the tasks set up by the teachers guarding the sorcerer's stone. I think my favorite task was when Harry and Hermione were trying to figure out the riddle about which potion was not poisonous. I remember having to do riddles in like 5th grade. But, of course they weren't life or death questions. I'm a nerd so I love trying to solve problems. Obviously, Hermione is my favorite character.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the first installment of J.K. Rowlings' wonderful series. Harry was raised by his aunt and uncle, the Durselys, since he was one year old, believing his parents had died in a car accident. The Durselys hated anything unusual, which is why Harry assumed they always hated him, unusual things always seemed to happen around him. One summer when Harry was eleven years old, odd letters began appearing for Harry. His aunt and uncle thwarted him any time he tried to get a glimpse at one. Eventually the whole house was bursting with them, Harry's uncle gathered him and his family up and attmepted to flee from the letters. They found themselves perched on top of a small island, in a shabby hut in the middle of the ocean, a giant breaking down the door and informing Harry that he was a wizard, and so was his parents. That they had not died in a car accident but cursed at the hand of a dark wizard named Voldemort and that he, Harry, was the only one to ever survive the curse and brought the down-fall of the magical worlds most wanted dark lord. He was off to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he was famous, and saves the Sorcerers stone from Voldemort who had all but disappared.
