Imagine a life of fear, tyranny, and betrayalthings you have known all your life. You know some out there are fighting against this oppressing government, but terrors grip is as strong as ever. Your life gets worse and worse, as food seemingly disappears completely, and everyone around you (except the government and their forces, of course) are suffering. Then, one day, you hear that the government, which has controlled life for years, has been overthrown! The governments lies and corruption have been destroyed and you are no longer under their unjust rule! The people are free! Is it true? Can you believe this previously impossible news? What is true freedom?

Embark once again with the Population Police resisters for one final Shadow Children adventure. Look through the eyes of Luke once again and witness the events that finally topple the Population Polices regime. The Population Polices control and power seem to weaken, as the ranks of the resisters swelled in size. Luke, who has been working undercover at the Population Polices headquarters, is selected to go on a special new mission. None of those recruited for the job know what is going on, and they are transported to a village, where they order the people to come out and turn in their old ID cards for new ones. But not everything goes as the Population Police hoped, and there is one firm resister; and old woman that refuses the Population Polices terms, even in the face of a gun. An official orders Luke to shoot the woman, but Luke refuses and flees. This small incident sparks the chain that will rid the world of the Population Police once and for all.

Escaping and being continually on the run, word reaches Luke that the Population Police has been overthrown! In their possession was a mind-blowing amount of food that the police feasted on, while the majority of the population starved and suffered. This is only one among the many deceptions the police made, but the people are happy with the free food they are getting, as well as the opportunity to be on the new Freedom News, which allows live speakers to speak about their experience (and often, hatred) towards the Population Police. Yes, the people are finally free from the polices tyrannybut are children like Luke, third children, free as well? Luke is hesitant to reveal himself as a third child, but returns to the headquarters. There, he is reacquainted with a horse he once cared for, while working undercover, but apart from her, Luke cannot seem to find any of his old friends. As he searches for them, he accidentally stumbles upon another vile plotlooks like the lies arent over yet!

There is no government or control over all the people; an open invitation to chaos and trouble. Everyones content for the moment, theres free food for all, and for once in years and years, regular peoples bellies are fullwhat more could they want? But new conspiracies are on the horizon, and trouble lurks ahead. With new propaganda on the verge of being released, the people will be no better off than they were beforecan Luke stop them? Is he really alone, or can he find support? When will he truly be among the free?

Those who have followed this series will marvel and understand how far Luke has come, and how much he as matured. All of his friends have come a long way, reaching their dream after much toil. With an overthrown abusive government, the possibilities are limitless, and this time, there are hopes that there will be freedom for all. As they say, this is not the end, but rather, the beginning to a whole new (and hopefully brighter) future. Sure, the ol good guy, Luke, seems to squirm out of sticky spots and rise to the occasion every time, but its still interesting to read how he does it! Slightly predictable (but hey, who doesnt like a happy ending), but enjoyable, this satisfying end to the Shadow Children series will be a hit to all the fans of this series! This book definitely deserves a 4.5 stars out of 5!
