Have you ever wished your life would change? Nutmeg does. Her life is dreary, and her meals are even more so: breakfast is cardboard, lunch is string, and supper is always sawdust. Nutmeg's house is drab, too, filled with junk and lackluster companions.

Nutmeg decides to go for a walk--and discovers a genie. For her three wishes, Nutmeg wishes for "something different" for each meal. The genie hands her a magic spoon and vanishes. Dinner is fabulous, but in the middle of the night, the spoon mixes up some mischief. It stirs the kitchen, the house, and then the land and sea and stars. Nutmeg and her family are on an airship/boat, heading for a beautiful island with a breakfast waiting for them, leaving Nutmeg to wonder what will happen for lunch.

NUTMEG is a charmer. The illustrations are filled with whimsical details children (and adults) will ponder for hours. The pictures turn from dark and dreary to brilliant as the story goes on. This story is all about change, and making your life what you want it to be. Highly recommended.
