What I loved: The inspiration for this book is really interesting, and although I had not seen the video before of Baldomera and Ismael being reunited, it is very cute. The illustrations are lovely, depicting the story well, and the emotions come across through the images. The story of friendship is one that will resonate with young readers.
What left me wanting more: The sudden worries around climate change were not totally clear and felt out of place with the story. This would also not be great for sensitive children, who may have similar worries when people are delayed (particularly the hospital bed). For this reason, the book may be better for older readers.
Final verdict: THE STORY OF BALDOMERA is a picture book about friendship and the joy of being reunited.
