NOTHING SCARES SPIDER! is a story about friendship. Spider is excited to travel and have adventures, traveling far from her web. Each time that she is about to get eaten, her friends call her back to her web with a tug on her string. The other bug friends have made up other excuses, although Spider tells them that these are not emergencies and soon heads back out again. That is, until her friends are about to be eaten by Frog. When Spider arrives, the frog turns to her, but her friends tell her that they can stop him if they all work together. They trap him, but ultimately set him free if he agrees not to eat them. The book concludes with Spider wanting her friends to come with her on adventures in cases of emergency.

What I loved: There are some silly moments in the book that will make children giggle, such as the pretend emergencies of the other bugs. The animals throughout are cartoonish and fun with lots of bright colors that will also be fun for children to look at. The book shows reckless bravery in Spider, though also the power of teamwork in getting out of danger at the end, which could create some discussion with children.

What left me wanting more: The text is large, but is sometimes printed in black on darker colors, making it difficult to read in low light. The messaging is not totally clear here, except for the value of friendship, and it may be a little scary for sensitive readers who would not appreciate that Spider might get eaten.

Final verdict: NOTHING SCARES SPIDER! is a brightly colored picture book with a story of friendship and working together to overcome obstacles.
