THE KIOSK is a picture book about a woman who is stuck inside her kiosk. Every day, she helps people to find what they need, but she is too large to leave the kiosk. Then one day the papers are dropped off farther away than usual, and while she tries to reach them, some boys come and steal her stuff. She then finds that she can carry the kiosk and walk, so she does. After a mishap with a dog, she falls in the river and eventually comes to a beach, where she lives and sells ice cream.
What I loved: The story is quite unique, and the illustrations are full of color and interesting details. There is a lot to look at on every page that makes it really interesting. The theme of finding your happiness is one that we can all understand.
What left me wanting more: The woman being stuck inside her kiosk seems a little odd and it is making her sad - unclear if the reader is supposed to find this humorous. I am not sure how I felt by the way her tides turn and dangerous things happen to her in the kiosk. It ended up feeling sadder than anticipated, and I am not sure if she really did find happiness at the end (or if she even wanted to work and life in a kiosk).
Final verdict: Overall, THE KIOSK is a bit of an odd picture book read that describes an unexpected journey to finding a better place.
