NOW YOU SEE ME, NOW YOU DON'T is ultimately a book about kindness and camouflage. Chameleon loves his ability to hide with his camouflage, and he uses it to trick the other animals in the jungle. At the end of a day full of mischief and mayhem, Chameleon gets a taste of his own medicine, when Frog uses their camouflage to play a trick on Chameleon. After he realizes it is no fun to be on the other side, Chameleon decides to change his ways.

What I loved: The illustrations here are really lovely with lots of color and appearing textures in Jonny Lambert's usual style. It's a really fun book just to flip through. The text itself is rhyming, which is fun to read and listen to, and it rolls off the tongue really well. The moral of the story is clear when Chameleon learns to improve his ways and treat others with kindness, even if you are able to be devious. The lessons about camouflage are also there throughout, for a small learning point.

What left me wanting more: Chameleon is really mean to the other animals, and it goes on for quite a while, which does not set a great example. However, it is part of why Chameleon needs to learn a lesson and to be able to put himself in the other animals' shoes (and he does apologize broadly). I do think it would be better if this wasn't done by further insulting the other animals (frog yells insults to the animals and then they turn and see Chameleon), but the overall lesson is good.

Final verdict: Overall, this is a solid read with great illustrations and an important lesson about the need for kindness and empathizing with others.
