DANCE LIKE A LEAF is a beautiful book about grief and loss of a loved one. A young girl loves spending time with her grandmother, who teaches her that there is no amount of scarves that is too much, the way tea warms your belly, and the joy of dancing with leaves. As time goes on, her grandmother is unable to participate in those things, so the girl tries to remind her of those things that brought her joy. After her grandmother is gone, the girl has trouble remembering to do those things until autumn, her grandmother's favorite season comes. She then bundles up and dances with the leaves just like grandmother taught her, enjoying the memories.

What I loved: It can be really challenging to talk to young children about loss and grief, and this book presents a beautiful way to celebrate the memories of loved ones after they are gone - by doing the things they loved. This is a heart-wrenching read and definitely brings a tear to the eye, but very beautiful. The language is poetic, capturing all the emotions and challenges in carefully chosen words. The illustrations are gorgeous with plenty of colors and celebrating the love between grandmother and grandchild so beautifully.

Final verdict: DANCE LIKE A LEAF is a gorgeous book about connection, loss, and grief. This is a great choice for children who have lost or are losing a grandparent.
